SF Blue Ribbon Panel on Transparency, Accountability, and Fairness in Law Enforcement publishes final report

In May 2015, the Blue Ribbon Panel on Transparency, Accountability, and Fairness in Law Enforcement was established as an advisory body to San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón. The impetus for the Panel was the discovery of a number of racist and homophobic text messages exchanged between current SFPD officers. Panel attorneys were assigned to seven different investigatory groups. Persyn Law & Policy's was Culture, together with attorneys from Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton.

When we began our investigation, no one could have foreseen the Mario Woods, Luis Gongora Pat, or Jessica Williams tragedies. Or the discovery of a second tranche of text messages circulating within the SFPD. Or the national events of the past week, which sharpened and elevated our collective anguish. Nevertheless, the report issues against the background of these events.

I am proud of the Blue Ribbon Panel's results and stand by them. Review the full report here
